Hands-On Learning

What is Your Hands-On Learning Program?

Our Hands-On Learning Program helps to teach and reinforce lessons and information in a wide range of academic fields. Every day we have a series of workstations that rotate. These stations teach things like handwriting and math literacy and offer support for more creatively minded students as well. There is always a element of play to the lessons we teach, always a balance between fun and learning. We endeavour to make learning a tactile and interactive experience. For example, we may have the students write in sand, or roll out letters in Play-Doh. This not only makes the lessons we teach more memorable, it also caters to a wide range of learning types. Some students are visual learners, and by making the lessons we teach a little more concrete and less theoretical they are more likely to thrive. We also have the children complete arts and crafts projects, making snowmen out of pom-poms for example. This engages their creativity and assists in their academic development.

Portfolios

Throughout the year we will assemble a portfolio of your child’s experiences and progress over the previous calendar year. This portfolio will capture their triumphs, showing off how much they’ve learned. You’ll be able to see the artwork they’ve made and projects they’ve completed. You’ll see photos of field trips they’ve attended, as well as plenty of photos of them playing and learning at A Creative Start. This way you’ll not only be assured that your child has benefited greatly from our program, you’ll have a memento of their time with us that your entire family can cherish forever!
